MBTI, DiSC, CliftonStrengths
They describe patterns in how you think or behave. Kanso shows what you would protect, what you would trade, and where a role may be costing you more than it should.
Job satisfaction tests
MindTrackers, burnout tools
They measure how you feel right now. Kanso shows what you'd need to feel differently.
Career direction tests
Holland Codes, O*NET
We don't point you at careers. We clarify what you'd need from any role - the one you have or the one you're weighing.
Most career tools ask you to rate yourself across a list of values. The problem is predictable: autonomy, impact, work-life balance, growth - everyone marks them all as important. You end up with a profile that's more aspiration than decision.
This isn't just a hunch — research on personality and job satisfaction has repeatedly found that self-rated traits explain only a small fraction of what people actually find satisfying at work (Furnham et al., 2002, Personality and Individual Differences). Rating everything highly doesn't tell you what you'd actually choose when you can't have it all.
Kanso asks you to rate each workplace condition independently. The resulting pattern shows what is most likely to shape a real decision.
A meta-analysis of 99 workplace studies found that satisfaction of core psychological needs — autonomy, competence, relatedness — predicts lower turnover and better wellbeing outcomes across industries (Van den Broeck et al., 2016).
Steve Tapley built Kanso after 30 years in software and a decade working across teams, hiring processes, and organisational design at the SME level. The pattern kept repeating: capable people in the wrong roles, not because they'd made bad decisions, but because they'd never had a framework that asked them to name their actual trade-offs. They knew something was off, but they couldn't easily identify what that was.
The rating pattern solves a specific problem: it gives you a clearer picture of which conditions are most likely to matter in a real decision.
From self-knowledge to a clear plan of action.

The career profile analysis is spot on. It's like it knows me better than me, and it was good to see some actions I can take to my manager.
